Schexnider, USN

A native of Arnaudville, Louisiana, Commander
Schexnider was commissioned in September 1985
following successful completion of Aviation
Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida.
In November, 1986, he earned his designation as
a Naval Aviator.
Upon completion of the SH-60B FRS in November,
1987, he joined the ‘Proud Warriors’ of HSL-42,
where he completed cruises to the Mediterranean
and Arabian Gulf. In March of 1990, he
transferred to the Vigilant Eagles of HT-18
based at Whiting Field, where he served as an
Intermediate and Advanced Flight Instructor.
During this time, he earned a Master of Science
degree in International Relations from Troy
State University.
In June of 1993, Commander Schexnider
transferred to USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) where he
served in the Air Department as V-3 and V-1
Division Officer. In 1995, he transferred to
Surface Warfare Development Group, where he
served as the SH-60B Weapons and Tactics
Evaluator.
In 1998, Commander Schexnider reported to the
‘Easy Riders’ of HSL-37 based out of Kaneohe
Bay, Hawaii. He served initially as the Training
Officer, and then as the Operations Officer. The
‘Easy Riders’ earned the COMNAVAIRPAC Battle ‘E’
during his tour.
Following language training at the Defense
Language Institute in Monterey, California,
Commander Schexnider proceeded to Paris, France,
where he attended ‘L’Ecole de Guerre’ as the US
Navy representative to the French War College.
Upon graduation, he received orders to USS
GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73), and reported aboard
as the Safety Officer in December, 2002. He
reported to Tulane NROTC as the Executive
Officer in July, 2005.
Commander Schexnider has accumulated more than
3800 mishap free flight hours and over 700
shipboard landings. His personal awards include
the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy/Marine
Corps Commendation Medal (two awards) and the
Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three
awards).
