Walking for Education

TU-NSBE sponsored its second annual "A Walk For Education" on Saturday, March 5, 2005. This year's event was held as the community service event for the 2005 Black Arts Festival which was coordinated by African American Congress at Tulane (ACT).

"A Walk For Education" is a community service event that has been held by NSBE chapter throughout Region V. It was a special program designed by one of the members at University of Houston in Houston, TX. The first one was held on February 2. 2002 in Houston, TX.

 

The aim of Tulane's "A Walk For Education" was to provide a community in the metropolitan New Orleans area with information on the opportunities for higher education that are present in New Orleans. A neighborhood in New Orleans East was the site that was chosen for this year's event.

A group of volunteers were organized from the various Black student organizations on campus including Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, and Xavier University NSBE chapters went door to door to hand out the bags of information, which contained brouchures about financial aid, and academic programs offered at Tulane University, Delgado Community College, Univeristy of New Orleans, and Xavier University.
