ECON 458 Labor and Population in Latin America (3)
Staff. Prerequisite: ECON 301 or approval of instructor. Writing Intensive. An
analysis of the economic relation between labor markets, population movements,
poverty, and human capital formation. Theoretical foundations are developed and
applied in several Latin America contexts.
ECON 461 Game Theory (3)
Staff. Prerequisite: ECON 301. Familiarity with basic concepts differentiation and
probability will also be useful. Game theory now pervades economic analysis.
Game-theoretic reasoning can also be found in other fields, including political
science, sociology, and biology. This course introduces the student to the use of
game theory in these diverse areas. Static and dynamic games of complete and
incomplete information are studied.
ECON 466 Seminar on Latin American Economies (3)
Staff. Prerequisite: ECON 301. A complement to other courses in the Latin
American economics sequence focusing on a particular country or sub-region.

given for H499 until satisfactory completion of H500.
ECON 607 Introduction to Mathematical Economics (3)
Staff. Prerequisites: senior standing and two courses in economics. A presentation
of the primary mathematical techniques used in modern economics: calculus,
linear algebra, and set theory.
ECON 608 Statistical Methods for Economic Analysis (3)
Staff. Prerequisites: senior standing and two courses in economics. A presentation
of the main statistical techniques used in modern economics: probability,
probability distributions, estimation, hypothesis testing. An introduction to
econometrics.
