ENLS 363 Advanced Expository Writing (4)
Staff. A course in written analysis on social and cultural concerns. Fulfills the
college intensive-writing requirement
ENLS 364 Screenwriting (3)
Staff. Prerequisite: ENLS 361 or 410. Expressive strategies and formal
considerations relevant to writing for television and cinema. Workshop format
requires sustained analysis of professional screenplays as well as student work.
ENLS 365 Persuasive Writing (4)
Staff. Emphasis on principles of reasoning and strategies of written argument.
This course satisfies the Louisiana State Department of Education's requirement
of advanced composition for certification in English. Fulfills the college
intensive-writing requirement.
ENLS 367 Technical Writing (3)
Staff. Communicating technical information in abstracts, executive summaries,
technical memoranda, process descriptions, amplified technical definitions,
progress reports, feasibility studies and proposals. Major emphasis given to
research reports and editing procedures.
ENLS 388 Writing Intensive Practicum (1)
Staff. Corequisite: three-credit departmental course. Prerequisite: successful
completion of the First-Year Writing Requirement. Fulfills the college intensive-
writing requirement.
ENLS 406 The Teaching of Writing (3)
Prof. Johnson. This course prepares students to become teachers of writing by
introducing them to fundamental theories and practices in the discipline of
rhetoric and composition.
ENLS 461 Advanced Fiction Writing Workshop (3)
Prof. Morris. Prerequisites: ENLS 361 or 362, and approval of instructor. A
seminar focused on production and criticism of student work, including reading
and analysis of fictional models. May be repeated for credit.
ENLS 462 Advanced Poetry Writing Workshop (3)
Prof. Cooley. Prerequisite: ENLS 361 or 362, and approval of instructor. A
seminar focused on production and criticism of student work, including reading
and analysis of poetic models. May be repeated for credit.
ENLS 466 Topics in Advanced Creative Writing (3)
Staff. Prerequisite: approval of instructor. A workshop emphasizing the writing of
creative nonfiction, biography, autobiography, screenplays, long poems, and
novels. The class is designed to allow students to work in genres not emphasized
in ENLS 461 Advanced Fiction Writing or ENLS 462 Advanced Poetry Writing.
May be repeated for credit on different topics.
