PHIL 675 Utilitarianism (3)
Prof. Riley. An examination of the utilitarian tradition and the modern debate over
whether some version of utilitarianism is likely to serve as the most adequate
moral and political philosophy. Same as PECN 675.
PHIL 676 Mill's Utilitarian Liberalism (3)
Mr. Riley. A study of the liberal moral and political philosophy of John Stuart
Mill, including his utilitarian ethics, doctrine of individual liberty, theory of
constitutional democracy, and analysis of capitalism versus socialism.
PHIL 688 Writing Practicum (1)
Staff. Corequisite: three-credit departmental course. Prerequisite: successful
completion of the First-Year Writing Requirement. Fulfills the college intensive-
writing requirement.
