Direct food aid distribution targets those who are affected by the famine and usually given free of charge. Village distribution systems aim to keep people in their home doing daily routines. Village systems assume that households have some access to food -- the food aid is then supplemental. Food aid during famines and/or conflict can take on the form of direct or indirect aid.
