This food security module was developed with support from CARE International (PHLS).  We appreciate inputs from Jeanne Downen and Tim Frankenburger, and the use of the Bangladesh and Kenya datasets for sections 4 & 5.

Food and Livelihood Security is a topic which is coming to the forefront of nutritional assessments and policies throughout Africa and much as Asia.  It is our goal to introduce these concepts, provide illustrations of how households cope with food insecurity, and to explain data analysis techniques which can be applied to Food Security surveys.  The Food Security Module is organized in the following manner:

Section 1:  Introduction

Section 2:  Coping Strategies

Section 3:  Computing

Section 4:  Analysis Example (HLS Bangladesh)

Section 5: Analysis Example (HLS Kenya)

For a general overview and more information on this topic look at the International Conference on Nutrition which deals with Household Food Security issues.
