The commerce of Budapest is centered in the inner city are of the Pest side of the city. The major banks, foriegn trading companies, the state travel agency, and the best shops are located in the Belvaros (inner city). Vaci Utica (street) is the best place to shop in Budapest, for everything from traditional embroidered items to leather goods. To balance the economic power concentrated in the Belvaros region of Pest, large shopping centers have been built in the areas periphery to down town. National economic reforms in 1968, created a private sector (as opposes to communist state controlled) in the retail and service industries that is flourishing today.
