These are useful sociological concepts that guided our study of children
in the United Kingdom.
-
Agency- self-determination, volition, or free will; it
is the power of individuals to act independently of the determining
constraints of social structure.
-
Diversity- the variety of traits, experiences, and cultures
of children within and across societies.
-
Social Structure- any relatively enduring pattern of social
arrangements within a particular society, organization, or group.
***On this site, we chose to use the British spelling of "labour" in
order to make it more applicable to the United Kingdom.
The purpose of this website is to inform viewers about the status of
children in the United Kingdom. This site was written and designed by Rebecca Daugherty, Katie Hiatt, Jamie Koenigsberg, and Rachel Zegas as
part of a
project for the first year writing seminar, Children and Society, taught
by Professor April Brayfield
at
Tulane University.
