Välkomnande till Sverige! Sweden is generally regarded as a world leader in equitable policy on work-family issues. This website is dedicated to looking at Sweden in the context of family, work, and gender.
Sweden is a capitalistic country of over nine million people that focuses a significant amount of money on social welfare programs. World-class public childcare, paid parental leave, limited workweeks, and parents that are engaged full-time in both family and work are a few of the gender-equal and family-friendly characteristics of this Nordic country.
Throughout this site, Sweden will be looked at from the perspectives of the mother and the father. Progressing from the traditional male-breadwinner/female-homemaker family models of the past, Swedish policy has been created to engage women in the workforce and men in the home. Through their public policy, Sweden works towards a goal of gender equality and child well-being to create a work-family balance; these aims reflect the general attitudes of the Swedish population.
