Cheers mates! Welcome to the UK! Here is a wonderful forum to get a great understanding of the work-family life that has taken place and is currently taking place in the good old United Kingdom. The purpose of this website is to provide all kinds of information about numerous topics that you might be interested in about work-family issues in the UK which are pertinent to the everyday lives of all different types of families. For a long period of time the United Kingdom's work culture was based around a rigid work schedule that was based on the male-bread winner family model. In the past couple decades this has begun to change and many more women have entered the workforce. Due to this somewhat new phenomenon of women in the workforce, the overall culture has had a hard dealing with this type of change, and families are suffering because of it. New cultural awareness and policies concerning these issues are surfacing, but many times they do not receive the support they need and the intended result is rarely achieved. We would like to highlight one of the chief problems facing the United Kingdom at present: childcare and domestic labors of many women are going unrecognized and unsupported by the government and the general public. This leaves many parents, especially mothers, with few alternatives to live a well balanced work-family life. It is apparent that this inattention comes directly from the older, more traditional cultural beliefs. Although things are changing, paid work has and still remains at a much higher value than domestic work. Fortunately, work-family issues are finally being publicized and prompting people to take action. That action, however, is merely in its infancy. Feel free to browse all topics and gain more knowledge about the work-family climate in the United Kingdom. Cheerio ol'chaps!
