May 11, 2009 - I have finished grading all exams and have turned in the grades.  If you want to know your grade, see your exams, or talk to me about your grade, send me an email and we can arrange to meet.

April 13 , 2009 - I have posted some photos from the field trip.  Click on the Here or on the Field Trip Photos link, above, to see them and download them.  If anyone has photos they want posted for downloading on the site, bring them to me and I will upload them to the web page.

February 17 , 2009 - For the lab on Thursday, February 19 (Projected Phase Diagrams, the igpet files for the lab can be downloaded from here.  In the list below, right click the file name and choose  Save As, then be sure to remember the name of the folder to which you downloaded the files.

January 15, 2009 - A new version of the syllabus that reflects the changes made to the field trip dates is now available from the Course Syllabus link above.

January 12, 2009 - Guess what - they're back!  Yes, you will have to know the chemical formulae for the common minerals again this semester.  Just in case you forgot them over the last week, you can get a list by clicking HERE.  A link within the document will lead you to a PDF file geared for printing this list.

Note:  Two versions of each set of lecture notes are shown in the table below.  The first is in html format, optimized for viewing on the Web at screen resolutions greater than 800x600.  You can print this version directly from your Web browser, but there is no guarantee that the pages will break where they are supposed to, since each person's browser can be set up differently (margins, fonts, font sizes, etc.). 

The PDF (Portable Document Format) versions of the lecture notes are optimized for printing.  All page breaks should occur correctly.  If your web browser has the proper plug-in installed, clicking on the PDF will bring the file into your web browser from which you can then print the notes.  If the plug-ins are not installed, your web browser will either attempt to download the PDF files or offer to send you to the Adobe web site to download the plug-ins for your browser.  If you choose to download the PDF format lecture notes you will still need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the files.  This and further information about the browser plug-ins can be obtained by clicking on the icon below.

Note for Netscape Users - Netscape versions 6 and 7 do not display the symbol font used in many of these documents. If you don't see the following characters as Greek letters alpha and beta - a b , then your browser has this problem.  If you are using Netscape versions 6 or 7, either see the following web site to modify your Netscape Browser so that it displays the symbol font correctly
