EENS 204/605 Field Trips

Fall 2007

Field trips to the levee breaches that occurred during Hurricane Katrina will take place on the following dates:

Friday, Sept. 7
Saturday, Sept. 8
Sunday, Sept. 9

Saturday Sept. 15

All field trips leave from in front of Dinwiddie Hall at 9:00 AM and last about 4.5 hours.

There is space on each trip for 14 students and you must sign up for a trip prior to attending to assure that there will be space for you on the trip that you choose.  To sign up, send an email to snelson@tulane.edu. Spaces will be reserved on a first come - first served basis.  Please state in your email the date on which you prefer to attend.

Once I receive your email I will put you on the list for that day and will send you an email confirming that you are on the list.  If there is no space left on the day you prefer, I will send you an email requesting an alternate date.  You can see the list of those signed up for each day and to confirm that your name is on the list by clicking on the link for that day in the list above.

On the day of your trip be sure to arrive in front of Dinwiddie Hall at 9:00 AM.  Wear shoes appropriate for walking on rough terrain and clothes suitable for the weather that day.  Be sure to bring a notebook, and, if you want, a camera.   If the weather looks like it will be really bad on the morning of a scheduled trip, you can call me on my cell phone at 504-812-9397 after 8:30 AM on the morning of the trip to inquire about whether the trip will go or not.

A field trip guidebook (in MS Word and PDF formats) is available at

 www.tulane.edu/~sanelson/Katrina.

That page and the guidebook are updated frequently so it is best to wait until the day before your scheduled trip to download/print the files.  Be warned that the guidebook contains high resolution color images, so the files are large and printing may take a while on a slow printer.

If you have questions, please email me at snelson@tulane.edu.
