Urban Society Concentration

Key foci include traditional approaches to cities and their social problems as well as the "new urban sociology" and broader perspectives on communities and identities.

Recent faculty research projects include a wide range of topics: the transformation of public housing developments (Devine), racial segregation (Gotham), crime and juvenile delinquency (Brezina), labor market processes (Elliott), the political economy of housing and real estate (Gotham), health outcomes of at-risk populations (Morse), local and international environmental struggles (Frickel), migration and development (Fussell, Elliott), and the social psychology of urban life (Adams, Devine).
