Rebecca Atencio

Rebecca Atencio joined the Tulane faculty in 2009 as Assistant Professor of Luso-Brazilian Literatures and Cultures. She holds a Ph.D. in Portuguese from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her main area of research is the intersection of human rights and cultural production in Brazil. She is currently completing a book titled Broken Frames: Memories of Dictatorship and Political Violence in Contemporary Brazilian Culture. She has published articles on Brazilian, Portuguese, and Lusophone African literatures in journals such as Hispania, Portuguese Literary & Cultural Studies, and Quadrant.
