Ari Zighelboim was born and raised in Lima, Peru. He has a BA in World History from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and an MA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. He defended his PhD dissertation, "Colonial Subjects, Colonial Objects: Cultural Strategies of Viceregal Peru's Inca Nobles, circa 1675-1825" at Tulane University in January 2007. Besides Colonial Latin American and Spanish Golden Age literature and history, his interests include Andean studies, alternative sexual subjectivities, and Jewish Latin American cultural expressions.
