Upon arrive in New Orleans

Housing information:

The first year and Second undergraduate students are required to live on campus, other students could choose to live on campus and off campus, on campus housing is limited, and the priority will go to new students. If you wish to live on campus, you can find useful information in the article below “on campus housing”. If you wish to live off campus, the first resource you should refer to is the “craigslist” : neworleans.craigslist.com. You can find a lot of housing information in the article below “off campus housing”.

On Campus Housing

House Evaluation:

TCSSA will provide off-campus housing evaluation service. We recommend you to consult with us before you turn in a deposit. Be aware that what we are able to provide is only suggestions according to our experiences. And you are entitled to the final decision. We are not responsible for any consequences resulted from our suggestion.

If you want us to help evaluating the house you want to rent, please send an email titled "housing evalution" to TCSSA Committee with the the follow information. We will try to check your apartment in person and talk to the landlord and come back to you within one week (not ensured):

Keep in mind that our resource is limited, please do not give us a list of apartment you want us to check. Only give one or at most two apartment you have already decide to rent and we can check if it has big problem. The service is aimed to prevent you from renting a bad apartment, instead of finding you a perfect one.

1. Your name and Department;
2. Address of the apartment;
3. Name and phone number of the landlord;
4. Detail of the house/apartment, including the number of bedroom, bathroom, etc. Does the apartment have central air condition? Please be as detailed as possible. It also helps if you provide a picture of the rental place;
5. Price of the apartment and lease time.

PS: We are also plan to make a landlord blacklist and whitlist. So any experience with your landlord is useful to us. We will be really appreciated if you can send them to TCSSA Committee

If you need a pick-up by TCSSA, please send an e-mail titled “Newcomer Pick-up” to TCSSA Committee with detailed information in the following form:

*  Airline and flight number (Required):
*  Number and size of luggages (Required):
*  Intended place to stay after arrival (Required):
*  Extra information (Possible flight change? Anything you want us to know about your trip to New Orleans):

Please send the above information to us at least 2 weeks before your departure. Arriving during weekends is preferable. We cannot ensure to be able to pick you up since our resource is limited. Please also be aware that due to high gas price and other factors, you should responsible for the gas and parking fee incurred upon pick-up, which will be around $8.

Please also be aware that you connected flight to New Orleans might delay. If you have a delay or any other emergency that can affect your time of arrival, please notify us as soon as you can. So if you don't have a cell phone that can work in the US, we strongly encourage you to carry some quarters for pay phone or a phone card.
