SAC Committees and list of Volunteer Members

The following is a list of various SAC committees.  Constituents are encouraged to contact members of these committees with concerns that they may have or issues they would like discussed at the general meetings of the SAC.

A. STAFF ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMITTEES AND MEMBERS FOR 2008

Recognition Committee - Description

The Recognition Committee organizes extramural events and activities. Activities may include award ceremonies, the yearly staff luncheon with the Tulane president, Commencement, Convocation and other activities as designated by the SAC Chair. This committee coordinates with the Electronic Technology & Information Committee to insure dissemination of information of the above-referenced activities.

Grievance Review Panel - Description

Any SAC member is available to serve on an employee grievance when called upon by the SAC Chair. A grievance is designated by H.R., and committee members who is asked to serve needs to be available for a grievance on whatever day H.R. has designated, between 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. There will be three committee members who will sit on this committee. A member on the grievance board will need to listen to the facts, asked questions of the grievant, the supervisor, and other witnesses that may be asked to testify. You are to be impractical and unbias, and after hearing all the testimony the three members will have to arrive at a verdict and submit this verdict in writing to H.R.

The Panel's responsibility is to hear the grievances of staff members, review evidence presented by both the employee and department head or supervisor, listen to witnesses, then deliberate and arrive at its findings and ecommendations. Three members will be asked to hear the grievance.

Electronic Information & Technologies - Description

The ET&I Committee is responsible for maintaining the SAC web page and producing other forms of media, including brochures and newsletters. Members may be asked to write press releases and news articles, as well as organize publicity for such events at the President's Luncheon. The ET&I must work in collaboration with the Recognition Committee, as the need arises, on such events as the Tulane Benefits Fair by providing printed materials and staffing.

Constitution Committee - Description

The ad-hoc SAC Constitution Committee holds meetings to draft revisions and submit changes to the SAC Board and members of the organization. Revisions must be read at two SAC monthly meetings before voting can commence.

Election Committee - Description

The Election Committee maintains a roster, consisting of all pertinent SAC membership data (i.e. campus address, phone, fax, e-mail, etc.) The Committee is responsible for instigating elections and maintaining election records. Other duties includes appointing volunteers to serve in vacant districts or positions, keep track of attendance and assess the need for redistricting at least every five years or if major changes take place at the University.

Staff Issues - Description

Committee members serve as an advisory group to the Council on special issues or concerns that arise throughout the year and/or fall outside of the scope of other committees. The Committee accepts and reviews issues brought before them by staff, weights the validity of said issues and forwards them for discussion at the General Meeting. This committee works with the Employee Relations Specialist at Human Relations to review the employee handbook and changes/additions to current policies.

B. STAFF ADVISORY COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS

1. UNIVERSITY SENATE MEMBERSHIP: The Staff Advisory Council has three voting seats on the University Senate. Members include the current chair, the immediate past Chair and one senator at large, elected from the SAC districts not represented on the Senate.

2. BOARD OF ADMINISTRATORS:
The Staff Advisory Council is represented on the Board of Administrators by the Vice Chair, as an invited guest.

3. UNIVERSITY SENATE COMMITTEES:
