Tulane University School of Social Work

The Porter-Cason Institute

History:

The Porter-Cason Institute was established in 1995 with funds from Dorothy Cason, a 1946 alumna of the Tulane School of Social Work, to honor Elizabeth Porter, one of her professors. Dorothy credited Elizabeth Porter with teaching her and emphasizing the professionalism of social work, and instilling in her her value and worth as a social worker. Dorothy carried this image of herself as a professional into a very successful and rewarding practice that lasted a lifetime. Dorothy died shortly after her endowment to the Tulane School of Social Work, and The Porter-Cason Institute is committed to making the best use of her legacy dedicated to the importance of the teaching/learning process.
