frequently asked questions
I am an incoming freshman. Can I attend Spring Auditions before I come to Tulane?
Absolutely! We highly encourage all interested incoming freshmen to audition in the Spring.
What do I need to bring to auditions? Is there a fee?
Be sure to wear clothes that are form-fitting but that you can move in, as well as dance shoes or tennis shoes. You do not need to prepare any choreography. There is a $10 audition fee to cover the cost of external judges.
Do members of Shockwave receive scholarships or a stipend?
At this time, there are no university scholarships or stipends for Shockwave members.
How often does Shockwave practice?
Shockwave practices three times a week for two-hour sessions. Practices are mainly held in Fogelman Arena, with some other locations during football season dependent upon the marching band.
Do Shockwave members pay dues?
New members will purchase their own warmups, bags, tights, t-shirts, and earrings. The exact amount will be announced at auditions, but is often around $150. Returning members purchase any replacement items.
Who choreographs the dances?
Most of our choreography is created and performed by the members of Shockwave. This is supplemented by material learned at private UDA camp in the Fall.
How does Shockwave stay in shape?
Shockwave encourages healthy eating and a positive body image. In order to maintain this, each member is required to attend a free workout class at Tulane's Reily Center each week. Members also do conditioning during practice. Additionally, members are offered the free services of the on-campus nutritionist and the Student Health Center. |
