R. Elise Magnus L. Memorial Achievement Award

elise magnusBackground
Ragnhild Elise Magnus Lindekleiv was an exceptionally talented young woman who had embarked upon a bright and promising future as a clinical psychologist. Gifted and interested in research, Elise had a special interest in intervention aimed at coping skills and knowledge about mental health in youth, as well as an interest in research ethics. She had already given her first international presentations and was in the final data analysis phase of her dissertation when she died suddenly and unexpectedly in April 2009 at age 28, leaving behind her husband Haakon Magnus Lindekleiv, infant daughter Ingvild, parents Dagfinn and Jeanette Magnus, siblings and many friends, relatives and colleagues. Shortly after her passing, family, friends and colleagues resolved to establish a lasting memorial – a living legacy to a young woman who had an extraordinary intellectual capacity and a deep and genuine engagement with fellow humans.

The Award
In consultation with the Magnus and Lindekleiv families, we propose to establish the R. Elise Magnus L. Memorial Achievement Award in the Department of Community Health Sciences at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. The award will be given at commencement time and will recognize a person(s) who has demonstrated excellence, achievement and/or leadership in disease prevention programs in the Greater New Orleans area. Candidates for the award may be drawn from the student body, faculty or staff of the graduate program in the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.

Our goal is to raise $20,000 to endow the award so that it will exist in perpetuity. This will enable the recipient(s) to receive a cash award as well as a plaque.
