COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women's Health upon receiving the prestigious designation of "Ambassador for Change" from the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To commend the Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women's Health upon receiving the prestigious designation of "Ambassador for Change" from the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the Tulane Xavier National Center of
Excellence in Women's Health (TUXCOE) for the national recognition it has received; and

WHEREAS, a collaborative effort of Tulane University Health Sciences Center and Xavier University of Louisiana, TUXCOE pulls from the clinical, academic, and educational missions of its collaborating institutions to build an effective community network and partnership towards the improvement of women's health; and

WHEREAS, TUXCOE's ultimate vision is mental and physical well-being for all women across their life spans, and its mission is to enhance women's health and well-being through communication, prevention, and leadership; and

WHEREAS, to achieve its goals, TUXCOE facilitates access to health-care services, fosters an interdisciplinary research agenda, promotes a women's health curriculum, and advances knowledge of women's health issues in the community; and

WHEREAS, the center has done an excellent job in meeting the needs of the community post-Hurricane Katrina; for example, after the storm, the center began offering stress management education through the Stress and Depression Awareness in Louisiana's Hurricane Affected Areas (STAND) program in collaboration with the Louisiana Maternal and Child Health Program of the Louisiana office of public health; and

WHEREAS, TUXCOE recently received the prestigious designation of "Ambassador for Change" from the United States Department of Health and Human Services; and

WHEREAS, as an official Ambassador for Change, the center will continue to focus on evaluating community health education programs and developing leadership programs for the women and girls of New Orleans; and

WHEREAS, the center is one of only fourteen centers nationwide to receive the Ambassador for Change designation for work in community outreach and health education, clinical services, research, professional education, and leadership development; and

WHEREAS, the Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women's Health merits a special measure of commendation for its outstanding accomplishments and the significant role it has played in protecting and promoting women's health, particularly in this historic time of rebuilding, rebirth, and renewal in the New Orleans area.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women's Health upon receiving the prestigious designation of "Ambassador for Change" from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, does hereby recognize and record for posterity the valuable services that it provides to the women and girls of the New Orleans area, and does hereby extend appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that it brings to the city of New Orleans and to the state of Louisiana.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the director of the Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women's Health.
