Several scholarships are designated especially for SCS students. They include:
May Allen/Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarships
The May Allen/Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarships memorialize Dr. May Allen, professor emeritus in Classics at Newcomb College, who was the first woman to receive a doctoral degree from Yale University in Classics (1908). The scholarships provide tuition support for Delta Kappa Gamma members enrolling for part-time coursework at the School of Continuing Studies, including travel-study programs. Applications are accepted three times a year for summer, fall, and spring classes.

Louis E. Barrilleaux Scholarships for Alpha Sigma Lambda members
Application deadlines in mid-spring semester each year, with awards made shortly thereafter. To be eligible, students must be continuing members of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor society for part-time college students, or newly invited to join ASL. Number and amount of scholarships awarded varies each year, with the average award totaling $1,000. Named in memory of Dr. Louis E. Barrilleaux, former dean of University College; they were endowed through gifts from Joseph W. Davenport, Jr. (UC '66) and friends and family of Dr. Barrilleaux.
Harrah's Scholarships for Minority Students
Application deadline is January 16, 2013. To be eligible, a part-time, undergraduate student must:
- Be a member of an ethnic minority group contributing to the diversity of the university
- Demonstrate academic merit (cumulative GPA of at least 3.4)
- Have declared a major field of study
- Have earned at least 30 credit hours through SCS
The award is $1,500; multiple scholarships may be awarded in a single year. Recipients may reapply in subsequent years, provided that they maintain a 3.4 GPA and are continuously enrolled. These scholarships were endowed through a generous gift from the Harrah's Foundation.
James Monaghan and Alana Bishop Monaghan Scholarship
This recently created fund supports students majoring or minoring in Homeland Security Studies. No awards are yet available from this scholarship fund.
Osher Re-entry Scholarships
Deadline is August 15, 2013. The Osher Re-entry Scholarships, funded through a $50,000 grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation, provide tuition assistance for adult students re-entering higher education. Multiple awards are available, with a maximum award of $4,065 per semester per student. To be eligible for the Osher Re-entry Scholarships, applicants must be currently enrolled, part-time students in the School of Continuing Studies between the ages of 25 and 50. Students must have a cumulative interruption of at least 5 years in their pursuit of higher education, must have earned at least 9 credit hours at SCS but not more than 40 credit hours total (including transfer credit), and must demonstrate financial need. Tidewater/Thomas J. Assad Scholarship
Awarded to academically meritorious part-time, undergraduate SCS students majoring or minoring in English. Number of awards varies. All eligible students are considered; no application is necessary.
The Elmo and Margaret Allen Waltzer Scholarship
No applications accepted – students are nominated by SCS advisers. The scholarship rewards a high-achieving part-time SCS student. Named in memory of Elmo Waltzer (UC '54), a charter member of UC/SCS's Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter and his wife Margaret, who were both supporters of lifelong education.
