The School of Continuing Studies has a limited number of merit
scholarships available to part-time students. The scholarships are
listed below, along with eligibility criteria and deadlines:
Harrah's Scholarships in Casino/Resort Management:
application deadline in early December each year, with awards made
in early January. Applications are available or at any SCS campus location. To be eligible,
a part-time student must demonstrate academic merit, be a member
of an ethnic minority group and must pursue a major, minor, or post-bacculaureate
certificate in casino/resort management. Four scholarships are awarded
annually in the amount of $1,500; the scholarships are renewable
for up to five years, provided that the recipients maintain a sufficient
GPA and continue to pursue a major/minor or certificate in casino/resort
management. These scholarships were endowed with a generous gift
from the Harrah's Foundation.

Louis E. Barrilleaux Scholarships for Alpha
Sigma Lambda members: application deadlines in mid-spring semester
each year, with awards made shortly thereafter. Applications are
mailed to all eligible part-time students. To be eligible, students
must be continuing members of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor
society for part-time college students, or newly invited to join
ASL. Number and amount of scholarships awarded varies each year,
with the average award totaling $1,000. The scholarships are named
in memory of Dr. Louis E. Barrilleaux, former dean of University
College; they were endowed through generous gifts from UC alumnus
Joseph W. Davenport, Jr ('66) and friends and family of Dr. Barrilleaux.

Elmo and Margaret Allen Waltzer Scholarship:
no applications accepted; students are nominated for this award
by SCS advisers. The scholarship rewards a high-achieving part-time
student enrolled in The School of Continuing Studies. The scholarship is named
in memory of UC alumnus Elmo Waltzer (UC '54), a charter member
of UC's Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter and his wife Margaret Allen Waltzer,
who were both supporters of lifelong education.
For more information, students should consult
their adviser.
