Telephony, computer networking, the internet, distance learning, distributed computing, videoconferencing, remote data base searches, integration of voice/data/image/motion video, global communications capabilities – these are only a few of these directions. Topics and objectives for student learning in this field range from the general and foundational to the detailed and complex.
Three certificate programs are available – for these certificates, all the courses must be completed at Tulane. In addition, the student has the option of pursuing the Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Information Technology with a concentration in data communications and networking (see separate materials on that degree program). A Minor in Networking is available for students majoring in any field in SCS.
In addition to the option any student has of taking one or two courses in Telecommunications, the College now provides the service of a Minor in Telecommunications. Current plans are to continue to gradually expand our offerings as the field expands, as experts become available to teach, and as textbooks and other materials are developed as course resources.
This certificate provides students with a beginning knowledge base and fundamental skills in the field of data communications and networking.
This certificate prepares students to seek internships from business and industry in the field of data communications and networking.
