programs: applied business

Program Director:
Choose Taurman III

To prepare students for success in the corporate, small business/entrepreneurship and not-for-profit areas, courses, post-baccalaureate certificates, minors, and associates of arts degrees are offered in accounting, advertising, finance, human resource development, management, marketing, and small business development.

Choose says: "Our approach to the body of knowledge in business is pretty broad. We deal with basic business education, to give students a foundation in accounting or management or marketing so they can say 'I understand. I now speak that language.' Faculty come from the leading organizations in the region and beyond. They're dedicated to bringing their real-world experience and their expertise to the the student. They feel they want the student to be successful, in whatever they're going to do."

"Students get an associate degree from the business program – a two-year degree – but 99% go on to get a bachelor's degree. The work they did in the business program becomes a minor; they will major in public relations, paralegal studies, computer information systems, social science or another subject. They'll go on in an area of interest and aptitude – something they really like – so they'll get up in the morning and say 'I get to go study this!'"

Other features: Licensing exams for Certified Public Accountants and Real Estate Brokers.
