Dorothy Mae Taylor was elected councilmember-at-large in 1986 (the first woman elected to this position) and served until 1994. Prior to her terms on the Council, she served in the Louisiana House of Representatives (1971-1980); she also served as Administrator of the Central City Neighborhood Health Center and as Secretary of the State Department of Urban and Community Affairs. The collection includes documentation on her achievements, awards, and accomplishments. Also includes documentation of her visits to the White House and meetings with Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton, as well as her involvement with the Anti-Discrimination ordinance.

Most of the records in this collection are from the councilmember-at-large's term (1994-1998), but some files do date from her years as District A's representative on the Council. Also included is information concerning agencies of city government, other public bodies, businesses, and organizations as well as topical subject areas. According to Wilson's staff, she kept extensive files on businessmen/women, politicians, and other individuals. The Republican Party Files reflect Councilmember Wilson's political activities as well as her role in securing, promoting, and managing the 1988 Republican National Convention in New Orleans. The Miscellaneous Republican Party Materials in Box 23 include Wilson's badges, etc. from the 1988 Convention, various publications related to that event, her commemorative license plates from the George Bush inauguration, and materials on the Bush/Quayle campaign. Some additional Republican Party-related records are filed in the General Subject Files. In addition, the records also include Wilson's annual Appointment Books for each year through 1997.
