Repository information: The Louisiana and Special Collections Department of the University of New Orleans collects material of and relating to the history and development of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. Materials include the archives of the Louisiana State Supreme Court, the Orleans Parish School Board, and the University of New Orleans as well as the archives of many organizations and businesses and the papers of leading individuals and families.
Collection highlights: The records of the Supreme Court of Louisiana include more than 50,000 case files (1813-1921). They are an important resource for the study of women in their various guises as business people, guardians, wives, widows, slaves and slaveholders and in other roles.
Finding aids: Available in the Louisiana and Special Collections Reading Room. There is a general subject guide to the holdings of the Special Collections Department on the repository's web site.
