HOUSING OPTIONS

A note about housing, parking and getting to the conference Tulane University is right on the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line that runs from Canal Street up St. Charles Avenue and then up South Carrollton to Claiborne. The center of campus where conference events will take place is approximately a 5-10 minute walk from the streetcar stop. We have block reserved rooms at a variety of hotels along St. Charles Avenue in hopes that conferees will take advantage of public transportation, and will make 1-day and 3-day RTA passes available to conferees. At the best of times, parking is at a premium on the Tulane University campus. At present, we are investigating garage possibilities on campus, and are trying to work a deal for conferees to be able to park in the Loyola University garage. Otherwise, the only available parking is street parking in the Tulane area.

The streetcars run approximately every fifteen minutes from 6 a.m. until 1 a.m.. It is a scenic 15-20 minute streetcar trip from the following Garden District-y hotels uptown to the Tulane campus. All hotels have parking facilities. Please use these hotels if at all possible so that the South Central Women's Studies Association does not incur any book blocking penalties.

We are currently investigating some more hotels (and a youth hostel) on St. Charles Avenue and will list them here within the next few days (as of 1/26/99).

If you are planning to attend the conference from out of town, PLEASE go ahead and book your hotel reservations! Word from local hotel people is that March is shaping up to be a crazy month!
