[This photograph] dates from Labor Day 1990 and is of a Kool-Aid stand the neighborhood children had to earn money for the MDA telethon.

Marriage Ceremony, 1994
The photo shows my sister Sandra marrying her 2nd husband, Wesley Brownfield in the front yard of their home in High Hills, NM, 1994. It's hardly a yard, though. They actually live in a trailer in the middle of 35 acres that they bought adjacent to the national forest. They were married first a few days earlier in a civil ceremony, then in a "New Age" ceremony which I don't fully accept, but that I actually like. Sandra and I are very close. I can't imagine not having been equally as close to her in another life! The little rug they are standing on was a Tibetan saddle blanket given to her by her life-long friend who is a travel photographer and who brought it back with her from an assignment in Nepal.

Bride and her father, 1967
My father, Hugh Goldsby, and I are getting out of the car at the church. I know it is early in the evening because my shoes are absolutely spotless, and also because it is near the beginning of the photo album. The White's took a predictable series of photographs at every wedding, ending the album with a shot of the bride and groom kissing in the back window of the get-away car.

Bride and Bridesmaids, 2002
This is my favorite picture from my wedding in Cherryville, NC on June 9, 2002. Although most people picture the traditional bride and groom picture as the hallmark presentation of a wedding, this picture is of a different part of that ceremony. In most weddings there is a behind the scenes tradition of a bride's close female friends and family members helping her prepare for her big moment with lots of well wishing, advice giving, and emotion. Here are my bride's maids showing me all the love and support that makes them my good friends. This was the most significant women centered ceremony I have ever been a part of.
