Every $2 you donate allows Dave to provide an additional hour of service to the New Orleans community.

Just after the hurricane, spring sophomore semester, Dave recieved a proposition from Jimbo (a.k.a. the boss") : "wanna wake up at 9 tomorrow and come to the ninth ward with me and a volunteer crew for community service? I'll give you a large crowbar and you can hit absolutely anything you like with it." And just like that, Dave's relationship with SAFER was born. Since that first weekend when SAFER began, Dave has been an active member, gutting houses and helping familes to rebuild their homes. Fresh from graduation from Tulane, Dave is spending his second term with SAFER as an Americorps employee, managing SAFER's construction sites.

Dave performed precisely six hours of community service while a high school student in Bay Shore, New York. Four of these hours were undertaken in the (successful) pursuit of a girl, and the other two were entirely coincidental. This attitude changed drastically as a result of hurricane Katrina. After a moderately miserable freshman year at Tulane University in New Orleans, it turned out that a devastating Category 3 hurricane is just what the doctor ordered for giving a drifting college student a sense of purpose. Once surrounded by the shattered landscape of New Orleans, working to rebuild communities became Dave's main priority.
